The List of Top 5 Fastest Centuries in IPL

1) Chris Gayle

  • Balls needed to hit century- 30 balls
  • Playing against- Pune Warriors India

Chris Gayle is popular for his heavy hits in cricket and he makes his sixes look so seamless like it was a regular shot for him. Playing for the side of Royal Challengers Bangalore, Chris Gayle was up against the Pune Warriors India team, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in 2013. It was utter chaotic for the fans to even comprehend what was going on as Gayle was hitting each ball out of everyone’s field of vision. He smashed everything that was oncoming and it only took him 30 balls to score his century and make IPL history. It is, as of this day, the undisputed and fastest century in IPL, of all time. He remained unbeaten on that day, scoring a total of 175 runs not out, in just 66 balls. Gayle also stands at seventh for the fastest half century in IPL (17 balls). It was during this 2013 match against Pune Warriors India when he simultaneously earned the seventh spot for the fastest IPL half century.

2) Yusuf Pathan

When one hears the name of Yusuf Pathan, one only hopes to see spectacular boundaries and nothing else. The power and the passion behind his strikes are something to be mesmerized by. And when his team needed him the most, he performed, against the formidable foes called Mumbai Indians at the Brabourne Stadium in the year 2010. Playing for Rajasthan Royals, Pathan smashed every single MI ball to score his century in just 37 balls. At the end of the day, however, Mumbai Indians snatched the victory but Yusuf Pathan did make history and his 100 runs in 37 balls were the fastest 100 in T20 IPL of that time in all of IPL. It was later topped by Chris Gayle, and now, Pathan’s century ranks as the second-fastest hundred in T20 IPL. Pathan also stands in the third spot for the fastest half century in IPL history.

3) David Miller

Playing for Kings XI Punjab, David Miller showed the fans and the world of cricket a phenomenal performance that is still talked about. With four wickets down at just 64 runs near the end of the tenth over against RCB in 2013, Kings XI Punjab was in a desperate situation. However, it was David Miller, who took the charge by himself and struck every ball that came to challenge him. He shut down the RCB bowlers completely and he then pulled off his century in just 38 balls. Miller’s incredible performance that day is among one of the most memorable moments in IPL and his 38 ball century currently ranks third for the fastest century in IPL ever, after Chris Gayle and Yusuf Pathan.

4) Adam Gilchrist

If the top batsmen plus wicket-keepers in cricket of all time are listed, Adam Gilchrist will surely be within its top 5. He proved once again how ferocious his batting ability was while playing for Deccan Chargers against the Mumbai Indians team at the Dr. D.Y Patil Stadium back in 2008, it was also IPL’s first season. Deccan Chargers were chasing the target of 155 runs and when Adam Gilchrist came in to take the charge, the whole stadium witnessed his true greatness. By playing just 42 balls, Gilchrist scored his century, including a total of 19 boundaries with ten 6’s and nine 4’s. With his performance, Deccan Chargers seamlessly won the match with 10 wickets and eight overs to spare. At the time, it was the top of the list, but as of now, Adam Gilchrist’s century against MI in 2008 has become the fourth fastest century in IPL of all time. Gilchrist also ranks at the tenth spot for the fastest IPL fifties ever.

5) AB de Villiers

  • Playing against- Gujarat Lions

The former South African cricketer, AB de Villiers was a magnificent wicketkeeper-batsman, loved by many cricket fans around the world. Playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Gujarat Lions at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in 2016, he faced off against the Gujarat Lions’ formidable bowlers. But it was de Villiers, who had come ahead of the competition between bowler and striker that day. It only took him 43 balls to score his century and offer the fans his beautiful gameplay. He continued his streak and came out with 129 runs not out in 52 balls at the end. His century remains at the fifth spot for the fastest hundred in IPL, which was later joined by David Warner (100 runs in 43 balls) a year later.
