Players in Points Rummy play for points after choosing the rupee variety in the 13-card Indian Rummy variation. When a player declares and receives a score of 0, they win the game of points rummy. The remaining points in non-sets must be calculated by the loser, and that score will be added. Based on the total points of the competitors, the winner receives the entire prize money. It is among the quickest and most well-liked Rummy game variations.

  • Each player is dealt a random set of 13 cards.
  • The first card from the deck is placed face-up in the open deck at the start of the game.
  • The remaining cards are placed face-down in the closed deck of cards.
  • At the beginning of each game, a joker card is randomly selected.
  • The objective of the game is to arrange all 13 cards in hand into sequences and/or sets.

Scoring and points calculation in Points Rummy

After completing the game's objective, the player who finishes first wins. The winner receives 0 points.

  • If one or more players lose the game after making their initial move, they receive 20 points each, and the game goes on until one person is left standing.
  • After making their initial move, if one or more players decide to leave the game, they receive 40 points each, and the game continues until one person is left standing.
  • If a participant announces but does not complete the objective of the game, he or she receives 80 points and the game continues until a winner is determined.

Calculating points for the losing player:

There are a certain number of points assigned to each card. The player that loses receives points based on the hand score that was determined as follows:

  • Any suit J, Q, K, and A each carry 10 points.
  • The points on all other numbered cards are equal to their face value, for example, 7 has 7 points and 3 has 3 points.
  • Joker cards are worth nothing.
  • With the following exceptions, a losing player's hand score is calculated at the end of the game by adding points for cards that are not categorized as sets or sequences. All cards are counted if the losing player has no pure sequence. If the losing player just possesses a pure sequence rather than two sequences, only the pure sequence is not taken into account.
  • A player may receive up to 80 points. For instance, a player will still receive only 80 points even if their hand score is 85.
  • However, a player will receive 75 points if their hand score is 75.
  • Special circumstance: A player is instantly removed from the game if they miss three consecutive turns. This results in a middle drop score of 40 points for this player.

What are the maximum points a player can get?

The most points a player can receive in an Indian Rummy game is 80 points. As a result, the player will only receive 80 points, even though the total worth of the ungrouped cards in their possession is higher.

How to calculate winnings in Points Rummy?

In Points Rummy, the winning amount is determined by:

Winning Prize = (Sum of total points of all opponents) x (Rupees - value of the point) - GetMega Rummy fees

Example - Suppose, in a game of 'Rs.2 / Point' Rummy, 5 players participated. Player 3 declared, resulting in the other four players losing with 10, 15, 20, and 30 points, respectively. The cash prize for the winner will be calculated as twice the sum of the other players' points, i.e., 2 x (10 + 15 + 20 + 30) = Rs. 150. After deducting the GetMega Rummy Fees, this amount will be credited to the winner's account.

How does the drop option work?

  • If a player in points rummy believes they have a bad hand, they may leave the game. You will receive 20 points if the player chooses the First Drop or plays without picking up any cards.
  • However, it will be regarded as a Middle Drop if a player leaves the game after taking one or more cards. 40 points make up the middle drop.
  • A declaration that is invalid results in a loss of up to 80 rummy points. A game of points rummy goes until the winner has 0 points.

What makes Points Rummy different from other variants?

Points rummy differs from other types of rummy in that each player must commit a certain amount of money in order to play (also called the value the players bring to the table). The value of each rupee earned during the game is predetermined. There is only one game round, and the winning player receives all of the money that all other players have pledged.

The time required to finish the game is another distinction. In points rummy, the winner is usually determined after just one full game.
