ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2007 Champion- Team India

The very first inaugural year of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup was hosted in South Africa. All teams that participated tried their best to make history by being the first champions to lift this trophy. However, only one team made it into reality and it is none other than team India. India’s performance in the tournament was magnificent and they had only lost one game, which was against New Zealand in a super 8’s match. They played against team Pakistan in the finals and under the leadership of captain MS Dhoni, India successfully defeated Pakistan and won the 2007 T20 World Cup final match by 5 runs and became the first team in the T20 World Cup list of winners.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2009 Champion- Team Pakistan

After coming so close to winning the first-ever T20 World Cup, team Pakistan was defeated by 5 runs making them the runners-up of the 2007 tournament. However, just two years later at the ICC Men’s World Cup 2009, which was hosted in England, Pakistan gave a tough fight in the tournament and made their way to the finals once again. They played against team Sri Lanka in the final match and solidified their victory with 8 wickets to spare, chasing a target of 139. With this, team Pakistan became the winner of the 2009 T20 World Cup.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2010 Champion- Team England

After hosting the T20 World Cup last year, Team England went ahead to dominate the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2010 which was hosted in West Indies. The only match they had lost was against the host country, West Indies, in their first game. But after that, they had a smooth sailing performance which landed them a spot at the finals against their Ashes nemesis, team Australia. The English team was chasing the grand total of 148 set by Australia, which they accomplished swiftly with 18 balls remaining and 7 wickets to spare.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2012 Champion- Team West Indies

Similar to England’s journey last championship, the host country of the previous twenty20 World Cup (2010), West Indies went ahead and dominated the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2012. They had also lost their first matchup, which was against the 2010’s runners-up, Australia. But their performance and success rate were sky high after that. West Indies won every single match following their first and only lost and secured the finalist spot. The final match was against the host country, Sri Lanka, which team West Indies went on to win by a margin of 36 runs.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2014 Champion- Team Sri Lanka

Team Sri Lanka came close to securing the T20 World Cup twice, in the year 2009 and 2012, but they were defeated in the finals. So the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2014 hosted by Bangladesh became their stage to win it all. Team Sri Lanka only lost a single match in the group stage against team England, and other than that, they had won the rest of the matchups. The final match of the championship was between Sri Lanka and India, which they had won with 2 overs and 1 ball remaining and 6 wickets to spare.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2016 Champion- Team West Indies

Four years after winning the 2012 Twenty20 World Cup, Team West Indies continued pursuing the title once again at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2016, which was hosted by India. The only matchup they had lost was against Afghanistan, and other than that, the team had a shiny record. They entered the final match of the tournament and played against team England. Team West Indies was chasing a target of 156 runs, which they surpassed with 2 balls remaining and 4 wickets to spare. With this, West Indies became the first and currently, the only team to have ever won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup twice and dominate the all-time T20 World Cup list of winners.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 Champion- Team Australia

After a long journey and coming close to winning the title in 2010, team Australia’s dream of becoming the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Champion finally came true with the 2021 edition of the championship, hosted by Oman and UAE. After continuous effort in the series, Australia earned their spot in the final match against Team New Zealand. They were chasing the grand target of 173 runs set by New Zealand, which they reached with 8 wickets to spare and 7 balls remaining in the game. This has been the first-ever T20 world cup win for Australia.
