His debut Test game was against Pakistan on November 15th 1989 and his last game was against West Indies on November 14th 2013 at the Wankhede Stadium. In his Test career, he reached numerous milestones, including a total scored run of 15,921 with 248 not out being his personal highest. This is also the most runs in Test cricket by a player that has ever been scored. Only Sachin has crossed the 14,000 and 15,000 runs mark in all of Test cricket.

He started his Test cricket career against England at Lord’s back on June 20th 1996.
He continued to play for the team for close to two decades, with his last Test game being against Australia at Adelaide Oval on January 24th 2012. 5. Alastair Cook - 12,472
The former English left-handed batsman claims the fifth spot in the list of most Test runs in cricket history that has ever been scored. Cook started playing for the English side back in 2006, with his debut Test match against India at Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground on March 1st.
He recently took retirement from cricket with his last Test game being played against India at the Kennington Oval on September 7th 2018. He played a total of 161 Test matches in his career and scored a gigantic total of 12,472 runs with 294 runs being his highest score in a single inning. Cook currently holds the record for scoring the most runs in cricket Test format from England. He is also the only English cricketer within this top 10 list of players with the most Test runs in cricket history.
6. Kumar Sangakkara - 12,400
With a total of 12,400 runs from 134 Test matches with a personal best of 319 runs, the sixth player with the most Test runs in cricket history is former Sri Lankan cricketer, Kumar Sangakkara.
He represented the Sri Lankan cricket team in Test format from the year 2000 to 2015. In his 15-year cricket career, Sangakkara managed to reach the highest runs ever scored in Test cricket from the Sri Lankan side.
7. Brian Lara - 11,953
West Indian cricketer Brian Lara is one of the greatest players in the history of cricket of all time. He was a phenomenal batsman who has made plenty of records on the field. The second West Indian cricketer in this list of most Test runs in cricket history is former batsman, Shivnarine Chanderpaul. In his debut international Test match, he played England at Bourda on March 17th, 1994.
His twenty-one-year international Test cricket journey produced many fruitful records in his career. In the total 164 matches that he played, Chanderpaul scored a total of 11,867 runs with 203 not out being his personal best.
9. Mahela Jayawardene - 11,814
Often defined as a tactical master in the sport, former Sri Lankan right-handed batsman Mahela Jayawardene is the ninth player on the list of most Test runs in cricket history.
He represented Sri Lanka in 149 Test matches from 1997 to 2014 and scored a total of 11,814 runs with his personal best being 374. He ranks second in the list of most Test runs in cricket history of Sri Lanka, right after Kumar Sangakkara.
10. Allan Border - 11,174
Former Australian captain and left-handed batsman, Allan Border, hold the tenth spot in the list of most Test runs in cricket history. He played 156 Test matches for Australia from 1978 to 1994 and scored a massive total of 11,174 runs with the highest in an innings being 205, which still remains among the top ten of all time. Allan Border is an Australian cricket legend with one of the most runs in cricket Test that has ever been scored.
