The red coin is called queen in carrom. It is the most valuable piece.

Value of the queen in carrom-
As per International Carrom rules, pocketing the queen adds 3 points. However, in many informal matches in India, players tend to add 5 points to the queen in carrom.

How To Get The Queen In Carrom Board Game

While setting up the board, the queen is placed at the center of the circle.

  • You can pocket and cover the queen if you have already pocketed at least one piece of your color.
  • If you pocket the queen before pocketing your color first, your turn continues. But you must sink one of your carrom men before covering the queen.
  • If you cannot  pocket your color piece at the end of the turn then the queen is returned to the center  by the opponent. Also, you will lose a turn.

Carrom Rules For Queen During Breaking

Breaking is the first shot of the carrom board game. The first player has to break the circle in the middle by taking the first shot with the striker. If you  pocket  the queen at the break then your turn continues. But you must sink one of your carrom men to cover the queen. If you cannot  pocket your color piece at the end of the turn then the queen is returned to the center  by the opponent.

How To Get The Queen In Carrom Board Game

The rules for carrom and covering the queen are similar to the rules during breaking.

If you pocket the queen in carrom and one of your coins in one stroke, the queen shall be considered covered.
However, if all your coins are on the carrom board If you  pocket  the queen before pocketing any of your coins then your turn continues and you try to sink one of your carrom men to cover the queen. If you cannot  pocket your color piece at the end of the turn then the queen is returned to the center  by the opponent.

Other Carrom Rules For Queen

There are a few other carrom rules for queen you must remember. There can be various situations depending on which coins are pocketed during the games. We will go through them one- by -one.

Carrom Rules For Queen After Incurring A Penalty

  • If a penalty is incurred but there are no pocketed pieces to return, then the penalty is owed till a piece becomes available. If you pocket the queen, when you have a due penalty then the queen shall be taken out for placing again in the center.
  • However, if after recovery of due penalty, if all the nine carrom men are on the carrom board  then, you can pocket the queen and cover it.

Pocketing Coins Along With The Queen In Carrom

This section deals with the situation if you by chance pocket the queen along with various coins and/ or the striker. However, the coin you have pocketed is not your or your opponent’s last coin.

  • Pocketing the queen, your coin and the striker together

If you pocketed these coins by a proper stroke then the queen and the coin so pocketed shall be taken out for placing. You can continue with your turn however, there will be a penalty due

But if you pocket the red coin, your coin and the striker together by an improper stroke, then you have 2 penalties and 2 of your coins will be due. The queen and the coin so pocketed shall be taken out for placing and you will lose your turn.

  • Pocketing the striker while covering the queen

While trying to cover the queen, if you pocket only the striker by a proper stroke, then  the queen shall be taken out and placed back. You will also lose 1 coin which shall be placed by your opponent and you will lose your turn.
However, in case of an improper stroke, you will lose 2 coins. Similar to above, the queen shall be taken out for placing and you will lose your turn.

Carrom Rules For Last Coin And Queen

This section deals with the situation if you are pocketing any last coin (yours or the opponent’s), and the red coin, and/ or the striker.

  • Pocketing your opponent’s coin

While covering the queen, if you pocket your opponent’s last coin then you will lose the board by the number of your coins lying on the board along with the points for the queen. However, If the score of your opponent is 22 or above, the points for the queen will not be deducted points.

If the above happens in an improper stroke, then your opponent can demand an additional point

  • Pocketing opponent’s last coin and your own coin along with the queen

If you pocket the queen along with your last coin and also your opponent’s last coin by a proper stroke, then you will win the round by 3 points. If your score is 22 or more you get  to win by 1 point.

But if the above case happens by an improper stroke, then your opponent wins 3 points. If his score is 22 or more then he gets 1 point only. He can demand one additional point also for an improper point.

  • Pocketing opponent’s last coin when the queen is on the board

If you pocket your opponent’s last coin when the queen is on the board, you will lose the round by the number of your own coins on the carrom board along with points for the queen. If the opponent’s score is 22 or more then, only number of coins will be deducted

If it was by an improper stroke the opponent can demand an additional point.

  • Pocketing your own last coin when the queen is on the board

If you pocket your last coin by a proper stroke but the queen is still on board you will lose the round by 3 points (1 point if the opponent’s score is 22 or above). In case of an improper stroke,  the opponent can demand one additional point

  • Pocketing opponent’s last coin and your own coin when the queen is on the board

If you pocket your last coin and also your opponent’s last coin but the red coin is still on the carrom board then your opponent gets those 3 points (1 if his score is more than 22). If your strike was improper then your opponent can demand 1 additional point.

  • .Pocketing your own last coin along with striker when the queen is on the board

When you pocket your last coin along with the striker but the queen is still on the carrom board then you will lose by 3 points (1 point if the opponent’s score is 22 or above)
In case of an improper stroke, the opponent can demand two additional points.

  • Pocketing opponent’s last coin, your own coin, the queen and the striker

If you pocket your opponent’s last coin, your own coin, the queen and the striker then you will  lose by 3 points. (1 point when the score of the opponent is 22 or more). The opponent can demand 1 additional point for the striker.

He can demand 2 additional points for the striker if the stroke was improper.

  • Pocketing opponent’s last coin, your own coin and the striker but the queen was covered  earlier
  • If you had earlier covered the red coin -

In such a case, you will lose only one point. You opponent can demand 1 additional point for the striker (2 points if it is a an improper stroke)

  • If your opponent had earlier covered the red coin
  • In such a case, you will lose 3 points. You opponent can demand 1 additional point for the striker (2 points if it is an improper stroke)
  • Pocketing your opponent’s last coin and the striker but the queen is on the board

Then you will lose the round d by the number of your coins on the board along with the value of the queen. If the score is 22 or above, only the number of coins will be deducted.

The opponent can demand 1 additional point for the striker. He can demand 2 additional points for the striker if the stroke was improper.

  • Queen falls in the pocket

If the red coin or queen lands extremely close to the mouth of the pocket and actually falls into the pocket for any reason, then it will be considered to be pocketed.
