The Objective of Rummy

The basic objective of Rummy is to put out a deck of cards in the form of proper sequences and sets. According to the online rummy rules of 13 card, every player must abide by the condition to make two sequences. Out of these two sequences, one must mandatorily be a pure sequence. And the other one to be formed has no obligations. It can be a pure sequence or an impure sequence.

Cards categories

Cards are categorized in increasing rank order: Ace, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, Jack (J), Queen (Q), and King (K). Some points to be noted while dealing with the various categories of cards are as below :

  • The Ace is worth 1 point, and it is generally used as a face card to form sequences.
  • Jack, Queen & King are called Royal cards and are worth 10 points.
  • The fourteenth card declaration can be made whenever someone has formed the necessary sets and sequences.
  • If the declaration has been made, validation takes form.
  • The opponent's points are calculated depending on the rummy format.

The Rules related to Joker in 13 card Rummy game

A joker variant is a joker card with a printed joker in it and is used in the game of Rummy. Usually, in a two-deck-Rummy game, two jokers take part, and one randomly chosen card is used at the starting of every match. The Joker card substitutes any available card to finish a set or an impure sequence. The rules associated with the Joker Card also depict that they can be used in the process of impure sequence formation.

Sequences in Rummy with basic rummy rules

Sequences are a series of cards (generally three or more cards) belonging to the same suit.

There are two types of sequences in Rummy:

  • Pure Sequence
  • Impure Sequence

All players must have at least one pure sequence to be the winner.

Common rummy rules and terms

  • Table: A Table is a virtual table for playing rummy card games. Each table has accommodation for 2 to 6 players. In the special MPL rummy, a table has enough seats for five players.
  • Deck: A deck contains 52 cards along with a printed Joker. Each deck further includes four sets of 13 cards of 4 different suit ranks, including Clubs, Hearts, Spades, and Diamonds. These cards comprise all sets of Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and the other cards from 2 to 10.
  • Joker Cards and Wild Cards: A Joker Card is presented in every open deck. A wild card is randomly selected among the distributed cards. These cards can be used as replacements for any of the desired cards to form sets and impure sequences. These are special cards and follow distinct rummy card rules.
  • Sorting: Sorting is a term used for arranging rummy cards before the game after the cards are dealt. Each player is supposed to sort their cards in a particular order to facilitate the formation of sets and sequences and prevent the mixing of cards.
  • Rummy Points: Rummy total points or the values associated with every type of card in the game are called rummy points.
  • Set: A set is a collection of three or four cards of a particular kind of the same rank but of different suits. You can also use a wild card or Joker to form a set.
  • Drop: If a player chooses to drop out of the game at any time, it is termed as a drop. However, this includes a penalty charge.
