Poker Chips

Poker chips or gaming chips are usually constructed using clay. These are chips moulded out of clay and other durable material. Chips made before the 1950s were made purely and entirely out of clay. Modern-day chips houses materials such as clay, sand and chalk to make these gaming chips more durable to be used for a longer time and bear substantial wear and tear. The exact way of making these chips is a closely guarded trade secret. Different manufacturers have different ways of making these poker chips.

Contrary to popular belief, these coloured poker chips denote poker chip values that are not painted. Multiple pieces of clay are used to form one poker chip. This can be done individually as well as in bulk. To do this in bulk, a long cylindrical piece of clay is formed with these different coloured clay and then cut into different pieces. Suppose it is them that the poker chip values are assigned to every piece.

The graphics denoting the poker chip values on each chip are called inlays. These inlays are made of paper and then applied to the individual poker chips. A thin plastic sheet is wrapped around each chip to keep these inlays in place.
