Rogers graduated from the now-defunct two-year Grahm Junior College in Boston, Massachusetts, with an Associate Degree in Nursing and subsequently attempted to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Miami, where she graduated with a Masters in Public Health Nursing. She was employed as an associate professor at the University of Oklahoma's College of Medicine, Department of Family and Community Medicine, after receiving her master's degree.
Though she has been acting since the 1980s, she bagged her first major role in The Mirror Has Two Faces (1996). She is best known for her work in television on the ABC drama series The Colbys (1985–86), Knots Landing (1987–91), and Monica Geller on Friends (1994–2004). Her film work includes It (1990), Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999), and The Door in the Floor (2004). She also starred as Anne Henry on the Fox series Touch alongside Kiefer Sutherland in 2013.

In 2003, Mimi Rogers took up competitive poker and finished in the money in her first major tournament at the World Poker Tour's 240 player Shooting Stars' main event No-Limit Texas hold 'em tournament in San Jose, California, March 4 2004. She is also on the board of directors of the World Poker Tour. In July 2006, Mimi Rogers finished in 33rd place and the money at the $1000 Ladies' No-Limit Hold 'em World Series of Poker event.
Rogers has also competed in various other tournaments, having played at the 2005 and 2006 World Series of Poker and the Ladies' Night Out Tournament during the fourth season of Poker After Dark. During her time on The Colbys, she entered into many different beauty pageants, winning Miss Photogenic in the Miss California USA Pageant in 1985. At this competition, she also won a special award for ‘Funniest Response to her Interview Question.’ Mimi Rogers was asked “If you could be any animal, what would you be and why? To which Rogers responded that she would like three animals: a lioness, a dove, and a bluebird. She was already a talented actress when she reached her late teens.
