Internet Games, without a PC!

Play Internet games . . . without a screen in sight

At the new Melbourne Museum you will play games on the Internet . . . but they are not on a screen.

Participants engage in a series of enjoyable and informative activities that are ideal for classroom use. Activities illustrate how the Internet works and in particular how information is transmitted through that network.

These games are suitable for any number of participants; they can be played in a classroom or in a school hall with hundreds of people. The activities are based on everyday concepts, familiar to both students and teachers. The teacher's role is to facilitate and/or participate - no prior knowledge of digital technology is required.

The activities form part of the education support material for an exhibition on digital technology at the new Melbourne Museum, visit http://melbourne.museum.vic.gov.au. The @digital.au exhibition seeks to explain how digital technology works and why it has become so widespread in our society.

A key school audience for the exhibition is year 3 -10 Science and Information Technology students and teachers. These audiences have been selected because of the emphasis in CSF II on a fundamental understanding of information technology.

The games are not part of the set exhibitions, and queries should be directed to the Digital Technology Curator at the Museum, David Demmant - email: ddemant@museum.vic.gov.au
