Internet Banking
All major banks are now providing Internet banking as an option to most of your banking transactions. It saves them money, and saves YOU heaps of time.
All you need to get started with a bank that offers Internet banking is:
- an existing bank account
- an internet connected-PC
- sometimes a phone banking username and password
Your bank will be able to give you any specific instructions you need, but if you're trying to avoid going into the branch, jump onto their website where you're likely to discover all you need to know.
Most Internet banking sections of the sites will also have demonstrations that you can run to get the feel of how it all works.
Some banks such as the ANZ have 'in-browser' functionality, meaning that your Internet banking will simply involve going to a particular page and entering your username and password. Others like NAB, will require you to download some software to your PC and an authentication file (which all happens automatically), although they are moving to the easier system later this year.
The types of things you'll be able to do with Internet banking include:
- transferring money between accounts
- checking account balances
- setting up direct debit
- paying bills via BPay
- transferring money to 3rd party accounts
- make transaction enquiries
- online share trading (requires extra setup)
