National Capital Education Tourism Project
Digital Camcorders, Kids and the National Capital
We joined a bunch of kids visiting Canberra as part of the National Capital Educational Tourism Project. They spent a few days filming their visit to Canberra, which they then edit into a short movie to enter in to a competition to win computer equipment for their school.
The idea is to get 200,001 students to Canberra during this year of the celebration of 100 years of Federation.
We visited the National Capital's most interesting landmarks, Questacon, the Science and Technology Museum, and had fun with their interactive exhibits including the optic fibre display and the multimedia demonstration of outback Australia. Not to mention the rollercoaster simulator, which I sat out! Visit Questacon online at http://www.questacon.edu.au.
One of the most hi-tech places to visit is the brand spanking new National Museum which you can visit online at http://www.nma.gov.au. The progressive exhibits at this museum include an interactive story, where you can use touch screens to listen to famous Australian's stories, and then record your own (the Horizons exhibit). The dancing floor was a blast - you jump around on the touch pad carpet and watch and hear the walls and music and change in time to your movements.
