Interactive Internet Kiosk
Damn technology! This morning's segment didn't go entirely according to plan, but I think you all got the general idea - that you can get live call centre support from a touch screen kiosk. (for those who didn't see it, the live person didn't appear on screen and the page she 'pushed' to my screen didn't appear... oh the joys of live tele!)
This is the type of device we're going to see in shopping malls and display showrooms in the coming years. The idea is not to replace customer service personnel, but to enhance the customer's experience by being able to ask a fully qualified person for help at any time, live.
Imagine you're in a computer store, and all the floor staff have a general knowledge of the printers for sale, but no-one can offer you specific information about the non printable area of the latest Hewlett-Packard colour inkjet printer. You walk up to the touch screen, touch through a few pages of information and then decide you want to talk to someone in further detail, so you touch the 'talk to me now' button. This takes you live to the Hewlett-Packard call centre, where you can ask specific questions and get quality answers. The call centre person may then display further information to you on the screen, which you could then print out and take with you.
